    Description

This mould is made of steel and is based off an original that we have in our collection. We have seen original moulds made in steel in various museums and private collections. The mould is a .715 . The mould measures 6" in
    length
. Please read the note below about my comments on our moulds before buying a mould. We produce these moulds and they will cast a good shootable ball. You may notice this mould has a sprew cutter. The mould is made in a  mid 18th century style, some moulds did have a sprew cutter in the 18th century, but in my opinion it was mostly during the last quarter of the 18th century. The mould will come to you with a round ball poured in the mould so we both know that the mould works. Sometimes you may get some flashing around the ball when casting,if this happens try lowering the temperature of the lead before pouring. Also want to mention that when you hold the mould up to the light you will see a small gap where the halves meet. This is normal as we have seen this in many originals moulds. A small gap will not effect the casting of the ball. We have many satisfied customers using our moulds taking game and plinking. There is great satifaction that comes from casting and shooting game with the round balls that you just made like they did in the 18th century. We do have other calibers available and plan on listing them sometime soon. The brown color on the mould is grease and not rust. We leave the grease on the moulds to prevent rust.
Note) These molds are hand made and may not cast the perfect round ball. We strive to do our best to make them as close as possible to the sizes we mention. The size may be off by a few thousands,as an example a .490 may measure out at .487. If you want perfection we suggest buying your round balls. However if you want to make and shoot round balls as they did in the 18th century then our molds are for you. We also have the question asked ,How many balls can you cast at one sitting? My own personal experience is about a dozen at a time and then I let the mold cool down and then start over. We own several original round ball molds and have many unshot hand dug round balls in our collection and have found that most balls are not perfect. We have seen the half's of the mold do not match perfect and flat spots. We made one mold that was oblong and had to load the round ball with the sprew to the side of the barrel to get the ball down the barrel, surprising the ball shot very well and have taken game with this mold. So after saying all of this do not expect absolute perfection in our molds.
