Delaware (Five Shillings) This 1776 bill mentions the King of England with the words "in the 15th Year of the Reign of His Magesty George the 3rd". Measures 3 3/4" tall by 3" wide Pennsylvania (Fifteen Shillings) This 1773 bill shows the Arms of William Penn with the motto "Mercy, Justice". The spelling of "Pensylvania" was common in Colonial Pennsylvania. Measures 3 3/4" tall by 3" wide New York (Ten Dollars) Note the phrase on this 1776 paper money "Tis Death to Counterfeit" at the bottom right corner. Counterfeiting of currency was a major problem in the colonies. Measures 2 3/4" tall by 4 1/2" wide Georgia (Four Dollars) This 1777 bill was one of the many issues intended to finance the war. Note the words "For the support of the Continental Troops and other expenses of Government". Measures 3" tall by 3 1/2" wide South Carolina (Five Shillings) Although this bill was issued in 1778, South Carolina issued currency as early as 1703 to obtain funds for an attack on the Spaniards in Florida. Measures 2 1/2" tall by 4" wide Maryland (Eight Dollars) Closely examine the top of this 1774 bill, and you will see the words "Maryland" and "Dollars" printed in alternate letters. Measures 2 3/4" tall by 4 3/4" wide New Jersey (Eighteen Pence) This 1776 bill displays the Royal Arms of Great Britain. Measures 2 1/2" tall by 4 1/4" wide. This set of British Revolutionary Colonial era currency not only illustrates the history of the USt, it would make a great addition to a collection.
